The Federal Council wishes to establish a federal mobility data infrastructure (MODI). This system aims to create the technical and organisational conditions to ensure the flow of information on all aspects of transport and mobility in a sustainable, secure and commercial-free manner.
The MODI data space improves efficiency in the transport sector and creates the basis for sustainable value creation in passenger and freight services. It is implemented by MODI, which facilitates the technical exchange and networking of transport data and the collaboration of stakeholders across all transport sectors and federal structures. The system encompasses data on transport infrastructure and travel options for both passenger journeys and freight movement.
The smooth flow of information between infrastructure managers, transport companies, private service providers and road users will help to better manage future traffic growth.

Provisional timetable |
A new legal basis is needed. The Federal Council is expected to approve the dispatch in the first half of 2025. If passed by Parliament, the new legal framework will be implemented in stages, likely from 2028 in three four-year phases. The focus will be on implementing previously identified and prioritised projects that deliver immediate benefits to stakeholders. |
