Target architecture for portals

Portals with digital public authority services are becoming increasingly important. The integration target architecture defines architectural principles so that the public authority portals are interoperable. This allows users to easily switch from portal to portal.

Public authority portals are a valuable offering that allow citizens and companies to obtain services from the state digitally. It is in the interests of all parties involved that users can switch from one portal to the next as easily as possible. To this end, the portals must be interoperable, i.e. they must be able to communicate and exchange data easily with each other.

This is where integration target architecture comes in. It lays down principles that should apply to all federal authority portals. It is aimed at authorities that are setting up or operating a portal. The target architecture addresses the following topics:

1) The technology-neutral interoperability framework defines how the necessary data interoperability can be achieved.

2)  The integration patterns including the necessary interfaces: thanks to the two integration patterns ‘implementation’ and ‘Integration’, a public authority service portal can integrate an externally provided public authority service. This means that public authority services can be obtained from several portals.

The target architecture forms the basis for implementing the recommendations of the SFAO audit on the synergy potential of federal IT portals (SFAO 20386) and the strategic guidelines on user-oriented portals for public authorities.
