Office automation standard service

The office automation standard service provides employees of the central Federal Administration with their digital workplace. This includes the workstation systems, associated communication and collaboration services, smart devices and printing services. The office automation client (OA client) is the key to specialist applications and digital services.

The Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT) and the IT services of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) act as the office automation service providers.

The office automation standard service consists of several elements (service groups):

Workstation systems

This includes the hardware and software needed for daily work at a personal workstation, for use on-site or in a home office (laptop, operating system, browser, etc.).

Communication

Comprises the communication tools included in the portfolio and services for mobile devices.

Office automation

Includes services for user access to office automation and various data storage systems, as well as the use of services for email and IT-supported collaboration.

OA printers / infrastructure services

Includes all services related to printing and central backend services.
 

Strategy for Office Automation 2025–2030

The office automation strategy is based on the Digital Federal Administration Strategy and defines goals and fields of action for the office automation standard ICT service. It is intended to guide those responsible in the departments and service providers, and shows how the DTI Sector of the Federal Chancellery will develop the service.

CEBA project

Rollout of Microsoft 365 in the federal administration

The Cloud Enabling Office Automation (CEBA) project is introducing Microsoft 365, the cloud version of Microsoft services, as the new standard in the Federal Administration. Employees will be able to use the latest Office applications, with technical and organisational protective measures in place to ensure that the federal government can use the software securely and to prevent unauthorised access by third parties.

Poc BOSS feasibility study

Office automation with Open Source Software

The PoC BOSS feasibility study was launched to strengthen digital sovereignty in the area of office automation through the use of open-source software. The Federal Administration is conducting a proof of concept (PoC) project to evaluate how to implement emergency office automation and the secure processing of sensitive information.
