Federal Palace Media Centre accreditation for media professionals
Media professionals require accreditation or day accreditation to access the Federal Palace Media Centre and participate in press conferences. The Federal Chancellery is responsible for reviewing applications and granting accreditation or day accreditation.
Accreditation
Under the Accreditation Ordinance (SR 172.071, Art. 2; de, fr, it), media professionals can be accredited by the Federal Chancellery if they work at least 40 per cent of a full-time position reporting on events at the Federal Palace for widely accessible media outlets.
Accredited media professionals can request a permanent workstation at the Federal Palace Media Centre if they work at least 60 per cent of a full-time position reporting on events at the Federal Palace for widely accessible media outlets (Art. 5 para. 2).
Accreditation is valid until the end of the current legislative term. Parliamentary Services also recognises Federal Palace Media Centre accreditation, which allows access to the Parliament Building.
Media Centre day accreditation
Media representatives who do not meet the criteria for accreditation at the Federal Palace Media Centre can apply to the Federal Chancellery for day accreditation. This ensures that specialist journalists, who might not report on federal politics to the required extent, can be given access to press conferences covering topics within their field of expertise. Day accreditation grants access to the Federal Palace Media Centre, allows attendance at press conferences and permits the use of facilities available to members of the media, such as unassigned workstations. The maximum period that can be applied for as day accreditation is 21 days (the duration of a session). Day accreditation does not include access to the Parliament Building.
