About the competence network
The Competence Network for Artificial Intelligence serves as the central hub for the use of AI within the Federal Administration – a ‘one-stop shop’ for staff and administrative units seeking knowledge, guidance, discussion and support with AI. The Competence Network is jointly run by a contact point within the Federal Chancellery and associated competence hubs across various administrative units.
Structure of the Competence network
The Competence network consists of a central point of contact within the DTI Sector of the Federal Chancellery and associated competence hubs, which provide the specialist expertise. The competence hubs are embedded within the respective administrative units and organised into the following thematic areas:
Tasks of the contact point
- Coordinating the implementation of the AI strategy
- Responding to and coordinating internal and external enquiries regarding the use of AI within the Federal Administration
- Managing the AI network and providing organisational coordination
- Providing resources, guidelines and information sheets on the use of AI systems and AI projects within the Federal Administration
- Regularly reporting on the network's activities and organising joint events and forums for exchange.
Cooperation and participation
The work within the AI network focuses on implementing the AI strategy. The AI network relies on the competence hubs for this. They contribute specialist AI expertise and integrate the network's activities into their day-to-day work. Each competence hubs is represented by a single point of contact (SPOC) and leads a working group on their thematic area.
Every four months (PI planning), the contact point and the competence hubs jointly define specific work packages. Through this regular coordination, the AI network ensures that the solutions are developed with a practical focus. The Federal AI Community has been set up to facilitate discussion among Federal Administration staff – it serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, where staff can ask questions, network with in-house experts, and share experiences and best practices relating to AI within the Federal Administration. All federal offices and administrative units are invited to become involved in the network.
Participation is possible at various levels:
