The standard service Websites – or SS Web for short – is the Swiss Federal Administration’s centralised standard service for managing and publishing web content. It is an evolution of the existing content management system (CMS) and is based on a modified version of Livingdocs. The platform enables different administrative units to create, edit and manage content efficiently.
SS Web is an important milestone in the Federal Administration’s transformation of digital communication. Centralised management and continuous development ensure that online content, including websites, is future-proof and user-friendly.
Why was SS Web created?
The standard service was created to standardise and modernise management of the Federal Administration’s numerous websites. The centralised platform leverages synergies, prevents technological redundancies and reduces IT costs. The aim is to improve user-friendliness and maintain content efficiently.
What has changed?
SS Web offers several major updates and benefits compared to previous systems:
- Centralised management: A standardised infrastructure for all federal websites.
- Easier maintenance: An intuitive user interface and simplified processes.
- Performance and security: The platform offers improved loading times and robust security standards.
- Standardised design: Editorial content is automatically displayed in accordance with the federal government’s web guidelines (WGL). This makes it significantly easier to avoid design errors, improving the quality and consistency of the websites.
- Responsive design: Optimised display on a range of devices.
- Mobile- and touch-first approach: The federal government’s WGL focus consistently on mobile and touch-based use.
- Focus on content: Editors can concentrate on content instead of visual design, which increases efficiency.
- Accessibility: The new WGL ensure that content is accessible to all user groups.
- Range of channels: Content can also be published via other channels using an API. These include apps, websites with their own design or any other digital channels.
- SEO optimisation: Integrated search engine optimisation features improve the visibility of the content online.
